Weβre moving right along in Seasons in the Orchard membership! βοΈItβs been a great start to the month so far. This week, we have been Finding True Freedom With Food! π½οΈ Your food is not supposed to stress you out, itβs supposed to nourish you. If you are struggling with nutrition, itβs time to let go of diets and restrictions and find a healthy balance and freedom with nutrition instead. π
We are constantly bombarded with information about the latest diet trend, what foods to eat, what foods not to eat, how much to eat and when. Itβs a lot to take in and can be really confusing and frustrating. And do you know what rigid diets and restrictions actually do for you?! Many of these βrulesβ and restrictions can have harmful effects on your long-term health. π Sure, you might lose weight in the short-term. But you will not get the proper amount of macronutrients (carbs, fat and protein). You also may not be properly hydrated or getting enough vitamins and minerals. π We don't want to live in the land of "always" and "never" by ALWAYS fasting and NEVER eating or ALWAYS eating and NEVER fasting. There needs to be variation, and we need to keep a balanced approach.
Now, if you are limiting the overall amount of food that you eat, of course you may lose weight in the short term. However, that does not always mean you are healthy! Restrictions can take the form of limiting calories so much that you lower your basal metabolic rate (your set point), as well as limiting the amount of food of food you eat. So sure, you might lose weight. But you will not get the proper amount of macronutrients (carbs, fat and protein). You also may not be properly hydrated or getting enough vitamins and minerals. π That is why during our intermittent fasting protocols, we promote supplementing with minerals to keep your body nourished when you are in longer fasts. We also stress the importance of eating nutrient-dense foods during your eating window because any type of prolonged food restriction can lead to malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies, lower energy, fatigue, intense cravings, binging, gaining even more weight back, mood fluctuations, poor immune function, hormonal and metabolic changes, psychological distress and potentially disordered eating. π³ We are aiming to have a healthy relationship with food and to also allow our bodies the time they need to detoxify and rest from digestion through intermittent fasting, not to mention the healing that comes through fasting and eating well. We aren't aiming to starve our bodies and deprive them of nutrients. If you think you are ready to break free from food rules and desire to have a more intuitive approach to nutrition, message me back! π¬
Breaking free from food restrictions and eating the way we were designed to is where freedom begins.
